What is the Marine Corps PFT?
The Physical Fitness Test evaluates upper-body strength, core stability, and cardiovascular endurance. Maximum score is 300 points across three events.
Pull-ups or push-ups, plank, and a 3-mile run or 5K row — scored against age- and gender-specific tables. Calculate your score on the homepage calculator.

Age brackets, score classes, and minimums aligned with the current Marine Corps fitness order.
Eight age groups
Tables change at 17–20, 21–25, 26–30, 31–35, 36–40, 41–45, 46–50 and 51+. Your age on test day sets your group.
Score classes
Fail, 3rd, 2nd, and 1st Class — from 0–149 through 235–300 total points.
150-point minimum
Most active-duty and Reserve Marines need at least 150 total points (3rd Class) to pass.
210-point combat arms
Starting 2026, combat arms specialties use sex-neutral minimums at 210 points.
Per-event minimums
A passing total is not enough — each event has its own minimum performance floor.

Requirements
Minimum passing requirements
A passing PFT requires both a minimum total score and minimum performance in each event.
For most active-duty and Reserve Marines, the minimum passing total is 150 points (3rd Class). Each event also has individual minimum performance requirements.
Combat arms Marines under 2026 sex-neutral standards must meet a minimum of 210 points using male age-normed tables. Confirm your MOS requirements with your unit.

Classification
PFT score classes
Your total out of 300 places you in one of four classes.
| Class | Points | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Fail | 0–149 | Below minimum — does not meet USMC requirements |
| 3rd Class | 150–199 | Minimum passing — you meet the standard |
| 2nd Class | 200–234 | Solid performance — most Marines aim for this or higher |
| 1st Class | 235–300 | Outstanding — top tier fitness result |

Policy
Recent PFT updates
Two major changes affect how Marines train and test today.
March 23, 2022
Planks replace crunches
MCO 6100.13A CH-4 set the plank at 1:10 for 40 points and 3:45 for 100, and ended the abdominal crunch on 31 December 2022.
January 1, 2026
Combat arms sex-neutral minimums
Combat arms MOSs must meet 210 total points using male age-normed scoring tables, regardless of gender.

Events
The three PFT events
Each event scores up to 100 points. Your total is the sum of all three.
Event 1
Pull-ups or push-ups
Choose one upper-body event. Pull-ups score up to 100 points; push-ups cap at 70 (270 max total).
Pull-ups vs push-upsEvent 2
Plank
Hold a forearm plank as long as possible. Valid range 1:10–3:45 for maximum score.
Why planks replaced crunchesEvent 3
3-mile run or 5K row
Timed cardio event: 3-mile run or 5K row (approved alternate). Custom run mode (5K, 6K, 7K, or other) is a training estimate scaled from 3-mile tables. Use the altitude toggle at ≥4,500 ft.

How often you take the PFT
Once a year, between 1 January and 30 June.
Marines take one official PFT each year between 1 January and 30 June, and the CFT between 1 July and 31 December. See when Marines take the PFT for scheduling details and exceptions.

Help
Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about PFT standards, passing requirements, and policy updates.
What are the current PFT age brackets?
USMC PFT scoring tables use eight age groups: 17–20, 21–25, 26–30, 31–35, 36–40, 41–45, 46–50 and 51+. Your age on test day determines which group applies.
What's the minimum passing PFT score?
For most Marines, the minimum passing total is 150 points (3rd Class). Combat arms Marines under 2026 sex-neutral standards must meet a higher minimum (210 points using male age-normed tables). Each event also has individual minimums.
Has the PFT changed recently?
The plank fully replaced crunches after 31 December 2022 (MCO 6100.13A CH-4). In 2026, sex-neutral minimums apply to combat arms specialties. Check fitness.marines.mil for the latest MARADMIN updates.
Does the Army or Air Force use the term PFT?
In Marine Corps usage, PFT means the Physical Fitness Test. The Army uses the AFT/ACFT and the Air Force uses the PFA — different tests with different names. See how the Marine Corps, Army and Air Force tests compare.
What are the individual event minimums?
Each PFT event has a floor performance requirement in addition to the 150-point total minimum. Failing any single event minimum results in a Fail classification even if your total score is high enough. Confirm exact thresholds with your unit or fitness.marines.mil.
Which MOSs are combat arms for the 210-point minimum?
Combat arms specialties are defined by official Marine Corps MOS lists and MARADMIN updates — not by this site. Confirm whether your MOS falls under the 2026 sex-neutral standard with your chain of command.
Do altitude installations use different standards?
Yes. Marines testing at installations at or above 4,500 feet use adjusted best-time standards for the 3-mile run or 5K row. Enable the altitude toggle in the PFT calculator when training or testing at elevation.
Do Reserve Marines follow the same standards?
Yes. Active-duty and Reserve Marines use the same PFT scoring tables and minimum passing requirements. For SMCR and IMA Marines the PFT is a scored annual requirement, taken between 1 January and 30 June like the active component.
Which age counts — birthday or test day?
Your age on the day of the test determines your bracket. If you cross into a new age group between tests, your next PFT uses the updated bracket automatically.
What is the minimum CFT score?
CFT passing minimums mirror the PFT: 150 points for most Marines, 210 for combat arms under 2026 standards. Use the CFT Calculator for event-level scoring details.
Where do I find official MARADMIN updates?
The authoritative source is fitness.marines.mil and official MARADMIN publications. This page summarizes current policy but is not a substitute for your unit's official guidance.
Can I pass with a high total but fail one event?
No. You must meet both the total score minimum and each event's individual minimum. A strong run cannot offset a failed plank minimum, for example.
