Quick answer

USMC PFT tables use eight age groups (17–20, 21–25, 26–30, 31–35, 36–40, 41–45, 46–50 and 51+) with separate male and female columns for pull-ups, push-ups, run and row. The plank uses one table for everyone. Since 1 January 2026, combat arms Marines are scored on the male tables and need 210 points.

For every passing rule in one place, see the USMC PFT standards page.

Age groups

The eight PFT age groups

MCO 6100.13A splits every age- and sex-based table into eight columns.

The USMC scoring tables use eight age groups: 17–20, 21–25, 26–30, 31–35, 36–40, 41–45, 46–50 and 51+. Each group has its own column for pull-ups, push-ups, the 3-mile run and the 5,000-meter row, with separate male and female columns. The plank is the one event with a single table for everyone.

The order scores you on the column for your own age group, and in practice that means your age when you take the test. One exception matters: recruits are scored on the 17–20 column whatever their age. Officer candidates and other officer students use their own age group. The full list of passing rules sits on the Marine Corps PFT standards page.

Event by event

How age and sex change each PFT event

Older columns ask for fewer reps and slower times, but not in a straight line.

Pull-ups. For men the 100-point mark peaks at 23 reps for ages 21–35 and drops to 18 for 51+. Note that the youngest men's group, 17–20, needs only 20. Whether pull-ups or push-ups pay more at your level is covered in pull-ups vs push-ups.

Push-ups. The push-up table follows the same pattern but stops at 70 points. A male Marine aged 21–25 needs 87 for the 70-point mark; a female Marine of the same age needs 48.

3-mile run. The 100-point time stays the same through age 40 (18:00 for men, 21:00 for women), but the slowest passing time gets a little longer in each older group.

Plank. No change with age or sex: 1:10 earns 40 points and 3:45 earns 100 for every Marine. Why the plank replaced the crunch is covered in plank vs crunches.

5,000-meter row. Marines aged 46 and older may choose the row instead of the run. It has its own table, compared side by side in 5K row vs 3-mile run on the PFT.

Sex and MOS

Male and female tables, and the 2026 combat arms rule

Since 1 January 2026, combat arms Marines are scored on the male tables.

Men and women have separate columns for every event except the plank. On pull-ups, women earn 60 points at their minimum rep count where men earn 40.

MARADMIN 613/25 changed this for one group. From 1 January 2026, Marines with a combat arms primary MOS are scored on the male, age-based tables whatever their sex, and need at least 210 points instead of 150. All other Marines keep the sex- and age-based tables. The PFT Calculator has a combat arms switch that applies this rule.

Birthdays

When a birthday moves you to a new column

A new age group can be worth points even if your performance stays the same.

Because the columns change at 21, 26, 31, 36, 41, 46 and 51, a birthday just before your test can change your score, though not always. For a male Marine, 15 pull-ups earn 73 points at age 25 and 73 at 26, so nothing changes there. The same 15 reps earn 78 at 40 but 80 at 41.

Once you know your column, the next question is which class your total reaches; see the four PFT score classes.

Frequently asked questions

Answers specific to this guide — not duplicated from the calculator or standards pages.

  • How many age groups does the PFT use?

Eight: 17–20, 21–25, 26–30, 31–35, 36–40, 41–45, 46–50 and 51+. Each has its own male and female column in the scoring tables.

  • Do female Marines have different minimums?

Yes, for pull-ups, push-ups, the run and the row. Women also earn 60 points at their pull-up minimum, where men earn 40. The plank table is the same for everyone.

  • Which age group are recruits scored on?

Recruits are scored on the 17–20 group regardless of age. Officer candidates and other officer students use their own age group.

  • Does age change the plank score?

No. The plank has one table for all ages and both sexes: 1:10 for 40 points and 3:45 for 100.

  • How does the 2026 combat arms rule work?

Since 1 January 2026 (MARADMIN 613/25), Marines with a combat arms primary MOS are scored on the male, age-based tables whatever their sex, and need at least 210 points.

  • What age group am I in at 51 or older?

The 51+ group, which has no upper age limit. Marines 46 and older may also choose the 5,000-meter row instead of the run.

  • Does a birthday always raise my score?

No. Some columns are identical between neighboring groups for certain rep counts, so a birthday can leave your score unchanged. Check both groups in the calculator.

Wrap-up

Conclusion

Eight age groups, separate male and female columns, and one shared plank table: that is the whole structure behind PFT standards. The 2026 combat arms rule is the only case where sex no longer picks the table.
